Reformation Day

Why is it that my favorite holidays are the non-traditional ones, like purim, passover and reformation day? its the history behind them that just make them so interesting and intriguing. I love the reformation and i am saddened at how few Christians even know what the Reformation was and why it was so important. The Reformation was the movemet of Believers in Christ who saw some major Scriptural and moral problems with the Pope and the Roman Catholic Church during the 16th century. Martin Luther was considered the initiator of the movement when he nailed his Ninety-Five Theses to the door of the Castle Church in Wittenburg, Germany on October 31, 1517, in which he brought to light some major heresy going on in the RCC. The 95 Theses included 95 propositions to debate over, including the selling of indulgences for forgiveness of sin(instead of through Christ), the sacraments and many other complaints Luther had seen as very far from Biblical Truth. Other Reformers(theologians and philiosophers) included Jan Hus, John Calvin and Zwingli. The basic theological statements that the Reformers were adement about consist in the "5 pillars of the reformation. "

Sola Scriptura-Scripture Alone
Solus Christus-Christ Alone
Sola Gratia-Grace Alone
Sola fide-Faith Alone
soli Deo gloria! To God's Glory Alone

So I pretty much think all of the Reformers were amazing but I just really have this thing for Martin Luther. He was just such a character! Absolutely nerdily hilarious! Here are some quotes I just love.

"The fewer the words, the better the prayer."

"I have no pleasure in any man who despises music. It is no invention of ours: it is a gift of God. I place it next to theology. Satan hates music: he knows how it drives the evil spirit out of us."

"Peace if possible, but truth at any rate."

"I cannot and will not recant anything, for to go against conscience is neither right nor safe. Here I stand, I can do no other, so help me God. Amen."

"If I am not allowed to laugh in heaven, I don't want to go there."

"Teaching is of more importance than urging."

So maybe next year i can have the Reformation day party that i wanted to have this year but couldn't because of surgery.
